Novelties were established to encourage the development of miniature type cymbidiums, which are not necessarily miniature in growth or flower characteristics, and would not ordinarily qualify under the miniature cymbidium classification.
To be acceptable in this classification a known dwarf flowered species should be in the background of the plant.
